Frequently Asked Questions Fines & Fees

Fines and Fees

If you need to pay a late fee or for a lost or damaged item, visit your branch during business hours. We accept cash or checks. Sorry, but we are unable to take credit or debit cards.

Late Fees

  • Starting the day after the due date, a five (5) day grace period ensues, during which you may return your overdue item without incurring a fine.
  • Once an item becomes six (6) days overdue, you will accrue a fine of 10 cents per day, per item, starting from the original due date.
  • These late fees continue to accumulate until either a) the item is returned, or b) a fine equal to the total replacement cost of the item has accrued.
  • An exception to this is interlibrary loan (ILL) books: Fines will begin accumulating on these items the day after the due date, at the rate of 25 cents per day

Paying for Lost or Damaged Items

  • Items that have been lost or damaged beyond use are charged at the replacement cost of the item, plus a $2.00 processing fee. Library staff reserve the right to determine whether an item has been damaged to the extent that the item will need to be replaced.
  • Damaged audiobooks are fined at the replacement cost charged by the publisher (usually $6.00 to $7.00 per CD). Audiobooks for which replacement CDs cannot be purchased, will be charged at the replacement cost of the audiobook, which varies depending on the number of CDs in the book.
  • Damaged audiobook or DVD cases will be charged at the replacement cost of the case, which varies depending on the number of CDs or DVDs the case holds.
